Are PDO Threads Right for You? 7 Key Considerations

PDO threads can deliver a beautiful, natural lift for the right person. Use these seven considerations to find out whether that's you.

1. Your Degree of Skin Laxity

This is the most important factor. PDO threads work best for mild to moderate sagging, such as early jowls, a softening jawline, flattening cheeks or a slightly heavy brow. If you have significant excess skin, threads have nothing firm to anchor to, and a surgical facelift will usually give far better value.

2. Your Age and Skin Quality

Most ideal candidates are in their mid-30s to early 60s. Younger skin with good natural collagen responds especially well to collagen stimulation. Very thin, sun-damaged or heavily lined skin can still improve, but results may be more modest and threads may be more visible.

3. Your Health and Medical History

You should be in good general health. PDO threads are usually not recommended if you:

  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Have an active skin infection or inflammation in the treatment area
  • Have a bleeding disorder or take anticoagulants that can't be paused
  • Have certain autoimmune conditions or a tendency toward keloid scarring
  • Have permanent fillers or implants in the area

Always disclose your full history so your practitioner can make a safe recommendation.

4. Your Expectations

Threads deliver a refreshed, lifted look, typically taking a few years off. They are not a dramatic transformation. If you want a "brand-new face", threads alone will disappoint you. If you want to look like a well-rested version of yourself, they're an excellent fit.

5. How Long You Want Results to Last

Results typically last 12–18 months. That's longer than many fillers and far shorter than surgery. Consider whether you're happy to maintain results with periodic treatments.

6. Your Budget

In the UK, a PDO thread lift typically costs between roughly £300 and £2,500, depending on the area, the number and type of threads, your location and the provider's experience. Remember to factor in maintenance. Be wary of prices far below local averages, because they may reflect inexperienced injectors or poor-quality threads.

7. Your Tolerance for Downtime

Most people are socially presentable within 1–3 days, but bruising can occasionally last a week or more, and you'll need to avoid vigorous exercise, facial massage and dental work for a couple of weeks. Plan around important events.

Quick Self-Check

PDO threads may be a great fit if you can answer "yes" to most of these:

  • I have mild to moderate sagging, not a lot of loose skin.
  • I'm in good health with no contraindications.
  • I want a natural, refreshed look, not a dramatic change.
  • I'm comfortable with results lasting around a year or more.
  • I can allow a few days of downtime and some post-treatment restrictions.
